Alone in the darkness but a’bask in the glow,
Of my twelve hundred friend’s faces and the latest spots they go.
Real connection is hard, with opinions, views, and no lenience,
I think I’ll just connect from afar, and bask in the convenience.
Alone in the darkness but a’bask in the glow,
Of all the beautiful scenery, of mountains, and food, and dough.
But travel makes me anxious and requires too much patience,
Much easier than a plane is to sit here, and bask in the convenience.
Alone in the darkness but a’bask in the glow,
Of the demands of my workday and opportunity to grow,
But today is full of apathy and AI returns immediate,
I’ll ask the chat to do this one job and bask in the convenience.
Alone in the darkness but a’bask in the glow,
Of all the grocery options, the selection never low.
But the day was long and stressful, so how much for the sequence,
For my dining to be dashed to me while I bask in the convenience.
Alone in the darkness but a’bask in the glow,
Of my entertainment options, movies, concerts, and shows
But it’s late and short on notice, so I’ll forego the experience,
and watch at home what I know I like and bask in the convenience.
Alone in the darkness but a’bask in the glow,
of an invite to a celebration and gifts for a good fellow,
But searching for a gift takes time and it’s the thought that gives the meaning,
So, I’ll gift a card to an online shop and bask in the convenience,
Alone in the darkness but a’bask in the glow,
Searching for a companion to match my libido,
But relationships are complicated and my tastes edge on deviance,
I think I’ll just log on tonight and bask in the convenience.
Alone in the darkness, but a'bask in the glow,
The communion of church is calling to be known and to know,
But it's early and the music, bleh... Isn't it still obedience,
If I just stay home and watch online and bask in the convenience…
Our spirit we are forming toward things of comfort and ease,
But intention requires aimed effort in part,
Undermined by this disease.
Work is not the opposition of grace,
but entitlement, pride’s bait,
We must acknowledge where we short our life,
And change before it’s too late.
Substance and meaning require effort and heart,
And for our lives we must advocate.
We cannot expect deep richness and breadth,
when convenience determines our fate.
